Stuff the Bus Campaign Helps Students Be Ready to Succeed in School
Stuff the Bus is a community-wide effort to collect supplies and backpacks needed for students to succeed in school. In 2009, United Way of Blair County's Local Education and Resource Network identified a local need - some families were struggling to stretch their budgets to purchase back-to-school clothing and the supplies needed to start the school year. The group reached out to local businesses, agencies, clubs, and churches asking them to conduct in-house collections by their employees or members or act as public donation sites for the community. The “Stuff the Bus” school supply campaign was a success right from the beginning. School supplies collected are distributed to students in Blair County school districts and early learning programs.
In the past eight years, through generous donations of supplies, Blair County helped 5800 preschool and school age children, who otherwise may not have been able to afford materials, go to school prepared to succeed. Beckwith Buses provides a bus to travel throughout the County, collecting the supplies from participating businessess.
Collection for Stuff the Bus begins in the month of June and extends to early August.
Registrations for families begin in the month of July. You must register to recieve supplies for your children.
Distribution of supplies occurs in the first full week of August.
