17th Annual Day of Caring
The United Way of Blair County will celebrate the 17th Annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, June 16th. The Day of Caring encourages community members to come together to help complete projects for area social service agencies that would otherwise not be completed. Past Day of Caring volunteers have helped with a wide of projects ranging from landscaping to helping Big Brothers Big Sisters with a picnic at Canoe Creek State Park.
"The Day of Caring benefits all involved. Agencies and programs gain much needed assistance, while volunteers come away with a feeling of pride and accomplishment, and often a new knowledge of the ways local agencies help those in our area." said United Way CPO Robin Beck. "I invite everyone to 'LIVE UNITED' on June 16th. By reaching out a hand to one, we can improve the condition for all."
Anyone can volunteer for the Day of Caring. The United Way is thankful to the business community that has embraced this day, allowing their employees to take time out from their scheduled work day to provide community service.
Families are encouraged to volunteer together. When it comes to volunteer work, United Way board member Andrea Cohen understands the benefits starting early. "Easy to do projects that the kids and I could do together, provided the perfect opportunity to learn the importance of giving back and helping our community" she said.
The volunteer opportunities for the Day of Caring are endless and United Way staff will work to ensure that each volunteer is paired with the project that is right for them. We are here to make this day a positive and enriching experience for all who participate.
